Overlooking the Place Saint-Lambert, the historic centre of Liège and the old branches of the Meuse transformed into Boulevards, facing the slopes of the citadel and at the foot of the preserved Mont Saint-Martin, the Colline du Publémont, the “public mountain” named after a Benedictine abbey, built over there in the 11th century in order to enable the population to escape the Meuse floods.
Located to the West of the city, this hill still has three very beautiful architectural features, the two most remarkable of which are undoubtedly situated at the start of the Publémont: the town houses of Sélys Longchamps and Comtes de Méan, built at the same time.
Left abandoned for too long, they have now been transformed into a hotel complex that is unique in the region: le Crowne Plaza Liège “Les Comtes de Méan” *****. It is a complete architectural and economic success, the fruit of over five years’ spent drawing up the design and on the specific works of a renovation that has been unanimously applauded, both for its contribution to heritage and in terms of the works carried out.
