History
Standing at the crossroads of Latin and Germanic influences, Liège, daughter of the Meuse, is a city with a rich history, whose origins go back at least to the 7th millennium before our era. Among those who have marked its history: Charlemagne (born in the suburbs), Notger (the bishop who really “created” the city, in 981), Charles the Terrible and, from the more recent past, Georges Simenon.
At the centre of the “Glowing city”, the place Saint-Lambert at the centre of the old town, the spot from which the town originated. Overlooking it is a hill that climbs towards the buttresses of La Hesbaye: Le Publémont, nestled at the foot of the Mont Saint-Martin. It is there that the Crowne Plaza Liège “Les Comtes de Méan” stands.
